WHAT DOES A ECONOMIST DO? As an Economist, you will use advanced economic and subject matter knowledge; and skills in the execution of your duties and responsibilities. In this position, you will work with economic problems, the integration of the assigned study into the major research problems, and the planning and execution of sequential work steps. As a Economist you will:
Assume technical responsibility for various phases of initiation, formulation, planning, and execution of major projects. Assist in determining the objectives of research projects and the methodology to be used. Develop specifications for research studies by presenting analytical material. Perform research to locate new sources of data, analyze pertinent information and draw conclusions. Play an essential role in error resolution of more complex statistical studies. Assume responsibility for the effective use of resources within assigned subject matter projects. Produce tables and graphical materials using standard computer software packages. Keep abreast of economic, statistical and tax literature for data and research methodology. (All grade levels) GS- 05 LEVEL Four (4)-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR A combination of education and experience. The education must include courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To be qualifying your experience may have included the following or must be sufficient demonstrate the ability to perform the following:
Individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation. Supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information. OR Teach assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following; (1) personal research that produced evidence of results; (2) direction of graduate theses in economics; or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems. In addition to the above, you must meet the requirements described below:
GS-7 LEVEL You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Knowledge of and/or skill in applying:
Methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; Research and study design and administration processes; Research procedures and master basic techniques; Methods to develop, analyze, and present statistical information; Types of economic and statistical programs conducted in other Federal agencies and their usefulness in evaluating or completing research projects; Economic significance of the information reported on the tax returns, present and prior tax laws; Oral communications and descriptive report writing; and User oriented computer programming languages and statistical software packages. OROne year of graduate level education at an accredited college or university in economics. ORSuperior Academic Achievement (SAA) may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with one of the following:
A GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all completed undergraduate courses or those completed in the last two years of study, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all courses in the major field of study or those courses in the major completed in the last two years of study, or rank in the upper one third of the class in the college, university, or major subdivision, or membership in a national honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. GS-9 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Demonstrated knowledge of and/or the ability to apply:
Methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; Research and study design and administration processes; Economic significance of the information reported on the tax returns, and tax laws; Oral communications and descriptive report writing; Developing, analyzing, and presenting statistical information; Economic and statistical programs and their usefulness in evaluating or completing research projects; User oriented computer programming languages and statistical software packages; and Rules, regulations, procedures, and related systems applicable to the area of responsibility; ORMaster's or equivalent graduate degree in economics. ORTwo full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in economics. GS-11 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Demonstrated professional and/or thorough knowledge of and/or the ability to apply:
Methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; Research and study design and administration processes; Economic significance of the information reported on the tax returns, tax laws and the impact of the proposed tax law changes on research projects; Developing, analyzing, and presenting statistical information; Laws, rules, regulations, and systems applicable to the area of responsibility; User oriented computer programming languages and statistical software packages; and skill in oral communications and descriptive report writing. ORPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in economics. ORThree full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in economics. GS-12 LEVEL:
In addition to the basic requirements you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Demonstrated professional and/or thorough knowledge of and/or skill in applying:
Methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; Developing, analyzing, and presenting statistical information, recognizing and adopting new techniques to fit the needs of research projects. To be qualifying, your experience must be sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform a variety of assignments on a research projects or programs where economic and statistical methodology were used to define, profile and evaluate market segments of taxpayers; Knowledge of user-oriented computer programming languages and statistical software packages; and skill in carrying out special assignments which need extreme precision in carrying out program assignments and resolving critical problems.For Grades 5 through 11:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
