WHAT IS THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONDIVISION? Criminal Investigation is the investigative and law enforcement arm of the IRS. When individuals or corporations deliberately don't comply with the tax law, Criminal Investigation responds with investigations and potential criminal prosecutions to promote compliance and confidence in the fairness of the tax system. WHAT DOES A PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST DO? As a Public Affairs Specialist in Criminal Investigation (CI), you will perform work involved in planning, directing and executing national communication activities to convey complex information concerning CI programs, responsibilities and activities. You will respond to media inquiries, consulting with IRS leadership and informing the public of key CI messages. You will develop professional working relationships both internally and externally in your assigned area of responsibility. You'll consult with internal customers; prepare communication plans to meet specific objectives; develop communication vehicles such as news releases, fact sheets, and web content. You will also work directly with the field office Public Information Officers to provide assistance and consultation to them in initiating and maintaining direct contacts with the media, specialized groups, communities, and other governmental entities. As a Public Affairs Specialist you will:
Plan, direct and execute national communication activities to convey complex information concerning CI programs, responsibilities, and activities, in coordination with National C&L, as appropriate. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including members of the news media, through National C&L Media Relations, specialized groups interested in CI programs, field offices, other Operating Divisions and Functional Units, and CI employees at all levels. Respond to information requests in written and oral form from the national news media through National C&L Media Relations and specialized, local and general publics on CI programs and International operations. Responses may require detailed explanations of the organization's activities or performance in a particular situation. Provide assistance and consultation to field offices in initiating and maintaining direct contacts with the public, specialized groups and community and other governmental entities. Advise management of public reaction/attitudes to policies and emerging issues and identifies and develops strategies to assist CI in meeting the needs of internal and external customers. Serve as technical resource for other employees with the CI Communications and Education function. GS-13 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
experience using and applying communication principles, methods, practices and techniques to effectively reach external and internal audiences; experience maintaining effective working relationships with members of the news media and other internal and external stakeholders; experience identifying public interest in and potential effect of Service actions; experience analyzing and evaluating data and making appropriate recommendations for field management; experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing; experience working and applying the agency's mission, goals, objectives, and strategies. - The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-timework; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. - To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:
You must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
